Inherited Traits -
3 types of organisms when we learn about inherited traits:
1. Organisms that don't go through metamorphosis, like mammals.
2. Organisms that go through metamorphosis in their life cycle, like insects and amphibians. The four stages of a butterfly's life cycle: egg, larva (caterpillar), chrysalis, butterfly (mature).
3. Plants. The offspring of a parent plant can look different because the offspring also gets its traits from the other parent.
Learned Traits - a behavioral trait obtained by an organism often to survive. These behaviors can be learned from parents or by trial and error.
Example: A dog is potty-trained.
Environment-induced Traits - Traits obtained by plants, caused by environmental conditions.
Examples: A willow tree is leaning away from the wind.
